My shopping trips for this week: Price Chopper, Aldi's and HyVee

Did a fair amount of shopping over the past couple of days - done for the week and hopefully done for the 4th?!  I spent right at $100 this week for about $175 retail (a bit more than usual, but I spent like $22 on Diet Coke alone.)  Yes, I have a slight issue with my Diet Coke and there were good sales to be had.

Some highlights:  

Price Chopper:
I grabbed  6 Suddenly Salads for 54 cents after coupon (this particular sale item ended yesterday), Diet Coke was 2/$11, I got some Jello for like 37 cents after $1/3 coupon coupons.com .  I also got corn for 25 cents.  They also have 24 pack water for $2.50 so we picked up one of those.

HyVee:
I got Ritz crackers and Wheat Thins.  They are 2/$4 this week and I used $1/2 coupons to get them for $1.50.  Sabra Hummus is buy one, get one free.  I picked up 2 of these and used 75 cent coupons (I can't remember where from) to grab these for $1.25 each!!  I also did the Kraft deal of buying 10 products, save $6 instantly.  I bought 4 Oscar Myers deli fresh lunchmeat, 4 Kraft Philadelphia cream cheese, and 2 Kraft singles.  I used coupons (which are no longer available) and the $6 HyVee coupon to score all these items for around $10.  I also did the Diet Coke 4/$11 deal with the in ad coupon.

Total side note:  I was OVERJOYED to see that the little kids carts had returned to HyVee.  They had all been "borrowed" and had not been replaced, but it was nice to see that they had gotten a couple more.  Would it be too much to ask you, HyVee, to buy like at least 5 of these, though?  There were 2 in total.  I know there were just 2 because I asked.  I guess they are just testing out to see if these also get "borrowed" but  still.....These tiny carts make our shopping trip soooo much better!

Aldi's:
Aldi's is certainly an interesting store.  No frills, but good prices.  We had gotten out of the habit of going and price matching at WalMart.  However, I got a $5/$30 coupon on my doorknob for the Aldi's off 87th and 435 so we went to check it out.  They were SUPER nice and friendly there!  I bought all of my fruit there and bought some other items for the 4th.

Do you use Target mobile coupons? If not, you should!

Target seems to be releasing a ton of coupons lately - they just sent out a ton of really great mobile coupons.  All you have to do is text FRESH and/or JULY4 to 827438 and it will immediately send you a link to the coupons.  You just buy the products and show the cashier the bar code to scan at checkout and that is it!  So easy!

Don't forget! $1 Flip Flops day at Old Navy!

Well, we braved the $1 flip flop sale at Old Navy this morning.  We got there about 10:00 (and the doors opened at 7 a.m.)  Craziness.  People everywhere with a SLOW moving line wrapped around the entire store.  We did find almost everything on our list and after weaving our way in and out of aisles, it was suddenly 11:30.  My kids did great, but I knew it would not last much longer.  We were in line for about 15 minutes when a sales associate asked me if I was an Old Navy card member.  Well, yes, I am, but I did it once to get a good deal and swore I wouldn't use it again.  She said she would take me to the front of the line and give me 10% off.  I said no, and moved on.  Then the meltdowns began.  Not bad ones, but I knew that they would eventually get worse so I tracked the lady down again.  She changed her story and said that only people opening new accounts could hope the line.  But, after a minute or so, she was kind enough to come back and take us to the front!  Yay!  My good friend gave us a $10/$40 couple and combined with a 10% discount, we spent right around $20 for a ton of stuff for this summer and next summer as well.  Go check it out this afternoon (if there is anything left!)

There are tons of tanks for $5 and even some for $2.  I bought 5 $2 tank tops for my daughter for the rest of the summer and next summer.  Can't beat that price!

My Price Chopper and Aldi's shopping trips - not one coupon used! Spent $41 for around $94 retail!

This week, I did not use ONE coupon!  I just know what rock bottom prices are and when to stock up.  Ground beef was $1.99 at Price Chopper (the four day sale ends today, if you want to pick up some meat.)  Ketchup was 99 cents, eggs 99 cents, corn 29 cents, avocados 25 cents (I bought 12!), strawberries were 99 cents and the Knorr rice sides were 49 cents.  There was a limit of 6 so I price matched 6 of them at WalMart and then bought 6 more at Price Chopper.

Mixed thoughts on the AMF Bowling freebie...

So I just returned from AMF Bowling lanes.  Along with a good friend, we attempted to take a 4, 3, 2 and a 1 year old bowling.  Sounds like fun, right?  It was fun, but I was a little put off by the amount of money we paid for the shoe rental.  If you remember the deal I highlighted in an earlier post, you sign up for "Summer Unplugged" and each of your children can bowl 2 free games a day all summer long.  However, you DO still have to pay for the shoe rental.  Well, granted, I don't bowl much, in fact, I don't think I have bowled since I have had kids, but shoe rental was like $4.50 A KID!  So we paid over 9 dollars a family to put our kids in these super cute bowling shoes.  Oh well, we still saved like $6 per family for the free games, but still, I had no idea!  

Side note, make sure if you take your young children, to ask for the ball ramps.  They were a HUGE hit!  You simply put your ball on this ramp in front of the lane and push it down the ramp!

Cow Appreciation Day at Chick Fil A is coming up!

So, once a year, Chick-fil-A does a promotion in which it will give a free meal to any customer fully dressed as a cow.  Or a free sandwich to anyone in a partial cow outfit.  July 12th is the day this year.  I was so close to buying a cow outfit this year - darnitt!  Does anyone have a kid one or adult one they would lend for the day?  After you wear it to Chick-Fil-A that day, of course.  I know people that have dressed up for all three meals and gotten three free meals!  Crazy and fun!
